History The Eisteddfa Estate

Eisteddfa (pronounced "ay-steth-va") means "resting or sitting place" in Welsh and was used as such by the pilgrims on their way to Bardsey Island.

Both the Armstrong-Jones and the Lloyd-George families have lived at Eisteddfa and all the property is still owned by a branch of the family. The most famous ancestor of the resident family, the Carey-Evans' was David Lloyd-George, former Prime Minister (1916). Find out more about Lloyd-George on the bbc history pages

There is an excellent visitor centre nearby at Llanystumdwy, where you can learn all about the fascinating history of this man who was one of the most charismatic politicians to come out of Wales. The Lloyd George Museum
